<poem>
She calls upon the Father of creation
With every act of kindness for our sake
She seeks his grace to guard and guide her children
To raise us up in righteousness and strengthen us in faith

Chorus:
And as each labor of her love becomes an offering
Gifts upon the altar of her home
He hears her silent prayer and labors with her there
To mold our hearts; to shape our very souls

Every selfless deed is her petition
That bears aloft a fervent wordless plea
And like a prayer ascending into heaven
Every quiet sacrifice entreats him silently
(Repeat Chorus)

Each word of hope or counsel
Each sorrow that she shares
Each comfort that she offers
Is a mother's silent prayer

Of high estate or poor and lowly station
'mid mortal praise or by the world unknown
Every work of motherhood's devotion
Rises up to plead for her before the Father's throne.
(Repeat Chorus)
</poem>
Ave Maria (English Hail Mary) is the salutation given by the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary at the Annunciation (Luke 1:28): Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum ("Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee"). To these words many additions have been made, both as prayers addressed to the Blessed Virgin (such as that prayed in The Rosary) and as musical texts. The Church Slavonic equivalent is known as Богородице Дево, радуйся (translit. Bogoroditse Devo, raduisya) which translates as "Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos" ("Theotokos" being Mother of God).

The traditional Catholic prayer continues with Elizabeth's greeting to her cousin Mary (Luke 1:41): Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui ("Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb"); and the name (Jesus) given to Mary's child. It concludes with words adopted by the Council of Trent: Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen ("Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen"). Other texts which include Elizabeth's greeting alter this formula to varying degrees.

Some texts follow the salutation of Gabriel with Virgo serena ("serene Virgin") and depart from there, often referring to the several aspects of Mary's presence in the Bible.

A short Eucharistic hymn dating from the 14th century and attributed to Pope Innocent VI (d 1362). During the Middle Ages it was sung at the elevation of the Host during the consecration. It was also used frequently during Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The text below is one of the four variants of the hymn that have come down to us.

<poem>
"I am the Resurrection and the Life!
He who believes in me shall never die!"
We walked together to the Tomb, the sun rose up before us.
Jerusalem’s lofty spires and domes flashed with gold,
the Temple walls awash in pink and violet.
But we felt no joy, our hearts were heavy and confused.
Could this be Him? His broken, bloodied body cold and dead?
Was this the King of Israel?
Could this be Him? Battered, beaten, spat upon?
Was this the Son of God?
Could this be Him? Crowned with thorns and crucified?
Could this be Him?
We wept and wailed. We’d waited centuries and this was our Messiah?
We reached the Tomb, the stone was cast aside.
There sat a man in robes as white as snow.
And when he spoke, his voice rang out like bells!
“He is not here, He is risen from the dead!
He is gone before you to Galilee.”
Then I remembered Jesus’ word,
His promise to His people:
"I am the Resurrection and the Life!
He who believes in me shall never die!"
Death has lost its awful terror now.
The grave lies empty in defeat!
Halleluia!
I am the Resurrection and the Life!
<poem>
Silent and weary, windy and dreary,
Yet full of heavenly glory!
Here in a manger, safe from all danger,
Lies the Child Jesus sleeping.

Round Him the angels, bright as the morning,
On bended knees adore Him.
Down from the hills the shepherds are gathering
With pipes and drums to greet Him.

Mary His mother, pure as a lily,
Close by her husband old Joseph,
Full of amazement, love and contentment,
Smiles on her newborn Son.

All the earth’s people, all the world’s creatures
Sing praises to the Messiah.
Wisdom of Wisdom, Light of the Light,
Jesus is Man, God Incarnate!

Silent, weary, windy, dreary.
