Gently, Lord, O gently lead us
Through this vale of tears,
Through the changes thou decreed us,
Till the last great change appears.
When temptation's darts assail us,
When in devious paths we stray,
Let thy goodness never fail us,
Show us thy way.

In the hour of pain and anguish,
When death draws near,
Suffer not our hearts to languish,
nor our souls to fear.
Then when mortal strife is ended,
Let us be among the blest,
And by angel bands attended,
There we shall rest.
