Io son ferito hai lasso e chi mi diede,

e pur d'andarci Amor mi face ardito,

English.png English translation

I am wounded, alas, and she who did it to me,
since calling for help is useless,
I would fain accuse, but I have no proof.

And without evidence no one will put faith in my woe,
nor does my fresh wound pour out blood,
still the accused wouldn’t pass the trial.

I suffer and die; the wound is invisible,
and even if the woe always is reviving,
my foe is not found to be armed.

How cruel a course will it be to return to her,
but nevertheless love makes me eager to go there,
for only she is able to heal me that has wounded me.
