Original text
Robin couché à mesme terre
dessus l'herbette près s’amye,
il crainct, se dit-il, le caterre
à elle le soleil ennuye
mais sotte ne monstra mye
luy disant en face riante:
"Mectz toy sur moy, je suis contente
de te servir pour matheras.
Et tu seras en lieu de tente,
car umbre’au soleil me feras."

Modernized French
Robin couché à la terre même
dessus l'herbette près de son amie.
Il craint, se dit-il, le rhume;

English.png English translation

Robin was lying out in the wold
Alongside his gal in the grass.
I fear, thought he, I might catch a cold,
But the sun was annoying his lass.
She, being by no means an ass,
Said to him with clear amusement,
“Get on top of me, for I’m content
To be a mattress for my fella,
And you’ll serve, in lieu of a tent,
As my personal beach umbrella.”
