Se da' tuoi lacci sciolto
tu pur credi ch'io pera,
donna crudel'e fiera.
Vaneggi, ché di se stesso signore;
vera felicità gode il mio core.
Più non è dal tuo volto
il mio petto infiammato,
né più li fan mortali
piaghe quegli occhi tuoi, né son più strali.
Io vivo senza piaghe e non amato,
e quest'è la cagion ch'io sia beato.

If from your bonds released,
you surely believe that I would perish,
O cruel and savage lady.
You bluster, because I am master of myself;
my heart enjoys true happiness.
No longer by your visage
is my heart inflamed,
nor do those eyes of yours cause mortal wounds, nor your arrows.
I live unwounded and unloved,
and this is the reason that I am blessed.
