Bethlehem Down
I'm about to do an edition of this piece, and am not quite sure why it is not in the Public Domain/copyright protected in the USA... It's certainly PD here in the UK, so I don't see why I shouldn't make it available here on CPDL (as the site is used by people other than Americans...). Any thoughts? If not, I'll post it shortly. - Edward, my understanding of copyright protection (at least in the U.S.) is that it also extends to the text, and Bruce Blunt died in 1957. Since 1957 + 70 = 2027, it seems that we would have to wait awhile. Chucktalk Giffen♫ 15:19, 10 October 2011 (CDT)
- Chuck, good point, thank you, I had forgotten about that! I've been speaking with my German publisher about the problems he's had with publishing Stainer's Crucifixion in German, as the lyricist lived well into the twentieth century. It's an odd law, as text is obviously far, far easier to transcribe than text, although not as easy to protect... Well, I'll just have to wait until my 39th birthday (I'm now 23) to post an edition... How depressing!!! Edward Tambling 16:49, 10 October 2011 (CDT)
Warlock and copyright
Since he died in 1930, my understanding is that copyright on his works ran out in 2000. I guess this is true throughout the EU, not just in the UK. There is the addition complication of typographical copyright, but that only lasts for 25 years. I would be very surprised if US copyright law was stricter than this, but perhaps someone in the States could enlighten us.Jamesgibb 10:23, 10 October 2011 (CDT)
