Samuel Babcock

Hello, Samuel Babcock was an American composer, died in French Mills, Pennsylvania 23 November 1813. He published two books of music in 1795 and 1803. There are many references to him, and he published two books available online. True, there is no Wikipedia page -- the {{WikipediaLink}} is added to composer pages automatically, and it apparently was not checked. When new composer pages are created, the Template {{WikipediaLink}} is automatically added, and it defaults to the page name. Apparently, no one (including me) checked to see if there was in fact a Wikipedia page for this Samuel Babcock. There is a page for him at IMSLP, however, and references to him in research. Daniel Belknap

Hello Dove Windsor,

I noticed your changes to this composer page. I also noticed your request for deletion of Samuel Babcock's composer page, and your changes following my restoration of the page. Apparently you are not aware of the standard format for composer pages (see template {{New composer}}). Not all composer pages follow the template, but many of them do, and there are over 3,400 composer pages.

You made two changes to the text of Daniel Belknap's page; neither is correct. In the first, you changed "how strong they be" to "how strong they are", yet "how strong they be" was used by Belknap, quoting from Isaac Watts' hymn from 1709 (see Hymns and Spiritual Songs (Isaac Watts)). The second change was "'Twas spring, 'twas summer" to "'Twas spring, 'Twas summer" -- the standard for first lines in English is to capitalize only the first word and proper names. Also, you added many blank lines. This makes it more difficult for users, as it takes more time to scroll down the page.

I am commenting on these two composers because I have made most of the contributions to their pages. I would like to see them return to the way they were, so I will change them back if you don't mind.

I believe you would benefit by exploring what others have done on CPDL. In my five years here, I have noticed the hard work and many editions of others, impressive work mostly done by volunteers.
