The remaining Sundays of the church year following the Easter cycle are historically numbered post-Pentecost or in some traditions post-Trinity, Trinity being the first Sunday after Pentecost. In the Roman Catholic rite Corpus Christi (the Thursday after Trinity) has its octave which displaces the second Sunday after Pentecost, and Sundays after Pentecost begin with Domenica III post Pentecosten. Depending on how early Easter occurs, the minor propers of Pentecost XXIII can be repeated until Advent begins.

In 1970 the reforms of the Second Vatican Council replaced these with Sundays in Ordinary Time, which includes the Sundays between Epiphany and Lent. The sequence Gregorian chants was largely kept the same, with a few tweaks to accommodate the 3-year cycle of readings which now are tied to the calendar year instead of the actual number of Sundays since Pentecost. Two confusing reorderings are Easter 3 and Easter 4, which formerly were the 3rd Sunday and 2nd Sunday after Easter, respectively, and Ordinary Time 15, which corresponds to Pentecost X but in the new calendar falls between Pentecost VIII and Pentecost IX.

Thus in 2010 the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time fell on Jan. 17, one week after Baptism and was followed by OT 3-6 before Ash Wednesday. After Lent, Easter, Pentecost and Corpus Christi (now moved to Sunday and renamed "Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ"), Ordinary Time resumed on June 13 with OT 11.
