It was calm and still at first light when Mary traveled to the tomb.
When she arrived she found that the stone was rolled away;
she looked inside and found that the place where Jesus lay was empty,
and then she saw an angel sitting on the stone.

He said to her, "He is not here; he is risen as he said.
Christ our Lord is risen today; death has no more dominion over him.
Christ our Lord is risen to day, Alleluia!
Death, o death, where is your sting?
Grave, oh grave, where is your victory? Alleluia!

The head that once was crowned with thorns is crowned with glory now;
a royal diadem adorns the mighty victor's brow.
The highest place that heaven affords belongs to him by right;
the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and heaven's eternal light.
