Life

Born: 13 January 1683, Kirchberg, Electorate of Saxony

Died: 10 May 1760

Graupner was a contempory of Handel and Bach. In Leipzig the city councel preferred Graupner (and Telemann) above Bach as successor of Kuhnau, but both withdrew their application. Much of his prolific work is preserved in autograph manuscript in the Darmstad University Library.
