Biography

Cornelius Canis was a Renaissance composer associated with the Imperial Chapel of Charles V. He succeeded Thomas Crecquillon as maître de chapelle in 1545, and was in turn succeeded by Nicolas Payen in 1556. Canis is a Latinisation of the Flemish name d'Hondt.
