Death will dissolve the tenderest tie
That nature forms below;
Our dearest friends are called to die,
And we are left in woe.

But should the summons be transferred
From those I love to me,
Think, O my soul, art thou prepared
The offended Judge to see?

O Savior, take my flinty heart,
And steep it in Thy blood;
Then, sanctified in every part,
I shall ascend to God.
