Life

Born: 5 May 1951

in London musical education at Oxford; special interest - science of music composition under John Lambert at the Royal College of Music also studied piano under Paul Hamburger and trained as an accompanist at London Opera Centre 1974 -1976 Flensburg, Germany - repetiteur & conductor 1976 attended Darmstadt composers' course - performance of Epitaph 1977 composer on International Gulbenkian course for Choreographers - Ephialtes commissioned by Scottish Ballet Workshop - Maxims. Hymn, Riddle commissioned by Spiral Dance Co, Liverpool - Invention for Jonathan Burrows' Royal Ballet Workshop 1977 - 1982 on music staff of Royal Opera House, London 1982 onwards - freelance musician in London pianist / chorus master / conductor for many companies to date including Wexford Festival, Dublin Grand Opera, Maggio Musicale in Florence, Aix-en-Provence Festival 1983 Piano Quartet Emplay wins Humphrey Searle Memorial Competition at Purcell Room 1984 - Mass for Four Voices performed at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival; subsequently broadcast on Radio 3's 'Music in Our Time - Chamber Concerto performed by Lontano at Bath Festival 1984 onwards - education work in Northamptonshire; joins outreach team of Royal Opera's education department 1987 & 1988 education projects in Bromley 1989 chamber opera Caedmon commissioned & performed by Garden Venture of the Royal Opera House 1989 schools project for National Trust at Claydon House in Buckinghamshire 1990 youth opera The Button Moulder commissioned & performed by the Royal Opera's Education Department in Northants 1991 -1992 school opera project for British Museum in Suffolk; The Treasure and a Tale performed at Snape Maltings 1994 school opera project on Egypt in Wandsworth & Greenford; performed at Bloomsbury Theatre: featured in Channel 4's education series Eureka! 1996 - 98 school projects in Basingstoke; project for Andover Museum on the Victorian workhouse performed in Cricklade Theatre: The Paupers' Revenge 1999 Christmas project for Hampshire primary schools: The News 2000 Arts for Everyone project in Andover 2001 Millennium Festival Awards for All project in Andover: The Dream That Hath No Bottom 2003 “du barocque…” for instrumental ensemble, St Nicolas Church, Newbury 2004 Completes commission for W11 Opera - All in the Mind First performances December 11 and 12, Britten Theatre, Royal College of Music 2005 The Crucifixion for Farleigh School, Hampshire
