Eleven Anthems (Joseph Key)
Description
Eleven Anthems was Joseph Key's second book of psalmody. The title page describes the anthems more fully as 'on General and Particular Occasions, Interspersed with Symphonies and Thorough Basses, for two Hautboys and a Bassoon; Being particularly design'd for the Use of Parochial Choirs'.
Publication date and place: 1779 in Nuneaton.
The work was 'Printed for & Sold by the Author at Nuneaton, Warwickshire', being 'Sold also by Messrs Thompson, No 75 St Paul's Church Yard; Mr Bland, No 45 Holborn; Mr Buckland, No 57 Paternoster Row; and the Engraver, No 43 (nearly opposite Hatton Street) Holborn. Where may be had The Author's First Book, Containing Eight Anthems, Te Deum, and Jubilate. Price 6s.'
The collection advertised on the title page would be the second edition of Key's Eight Anthems: the first edition had been published in 1774, but this did not include the Te Deum and Jubilate, which were added in the second edition of 1776.
Eleven Anthems is not dated, but was published in 1779, being advertised in the Leicester Journal on 31 July 1779.
