Life

Born: 14 February 1602

Died: 14 January 1676

Biography Born Pietro Francesco Caletti-Bruni at Crema, Lombardy, Cavalli took the name of his Venetian patron. He joined St Mark's Basilica as a soprano under Claudio Monteverdi in 1616, becoming second organist in 1639, first organist in 1665, and in 1668 maestro di cappella. His operas number over 40.
