Description: Gabriel's Message, or The angel Gabriel from heaven came (Basque: Birjina gaztettobat zegoen) is a Basque Christmas folk carol about the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary. It quotes the biblical account of that event (Luke 1:26-38) and Mary's Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55).

It was translated into English by Sabine Baring-Gould and is best known from that version. It was also made famous on the album A Very Special Christmas, as performed by recording artist Sting, who in his version replaces the word "Christian" with the word "everyone".

1.
The angel Gabriel from Heaven came,
his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame,
"All hail", said he, "thou lowly maiden Mary,
most highly favoured lady," Gloria, Gloria!
2.
"For know, a blessed mother thou shalt be,
all generations laud and honour thee,
thy Son shall be Emmanuel, by seers foretold.
Most highly favoured lady," Gloria, Gloria!
3.
Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head,
"To me be as it pleaseth God," she said,
"my soul shall laud and magnify His holy Name,"
Most highly favoured lady, Gloria, Gloria!
4.
Of her, Emmanuel, the child, was born.
In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn,
And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say,
Most highly favoured lady. Gloria!
