Esperanto text
English translation
When I was young with a passionate heart / I wanted to mend every mischief in the world.
But the grown-ups told me this would be impossible /
And the only option would be to choose between becoming a wolf or a sheep.
But I felt that the world did not have to / be such, just as it was.
And I dreamt of a better world / and I have kept this dream within me.
Choir: I kept the dream, this dream within me.
When I was older, I saw so many become part / in the horde of the wolves with an enticing call:
"Come! Come, you too! It is cozy here: / the meat of the sheep already rosts in its grease."
But I felt that the world did not have to / be such, just as it was.
And I dreamt of a better world / and I have kept this dream within me.
Choir: I kept the dream, this dream within me.
Now I am old with a saddened heart / because I could hardly change anything in the world.
And I ask for indulgence at my children / but the smile while responding to me:
"Yes, we know that the world does not have to / be such, just as it is.
And we dream of a better world / and we keep this dream within us."
Choir: We keep the dream, this dream within us.
