Died: 24 March 1882

Biography

American poet who achieved popularity in his lifetime and after. Known for works including Paul Revere's Ride, The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline. After the death of his second wife, he went through a period of difficulty writing poetry and focused instead on translation, including Dante's Divina Comedia.
