Italian.png Italian text

Or qui son, lasso, et voglio esser altrove;
et vorrei piú volere, et piú non voglio;
et per piú non poter fo quant'io posso;

e d'antichi desir' lagrime nove
provan com'io son pur quel ch'i' mi soglio,
né per mille rivolte anchor son mosso.

Canzoniere 118 (final two stanzas of four)
English.png English translation

I am here now, alas, and would be elsewhere:
and wish to wish for more, and wish no more:
and because I cannot do more, do what I can:

and fresh tears from old desire
show that I am what I have always been,
no different yet despite a thousand changes.
