Italian.png Italian text

Lodar voi, donne ingrate,
per riportarvi al cielo
saria far freddo il caldo e caldo il gelo;
Però non mi sdegnate
se poca è la mercede,
che minor è del vostro amor la fede;
Il ciel, donne, a voi diede
liberamente in dono
il falso amor, ma non già il bello e il bono;
Ciechi gli amanti sono
et è più ciecho Amore,
a darvi in preda una alma o darvi un core.

English.png English translation

Praising you, ungrateful women,
by giving a good report of you to the heavens,
would be like making cold the heat and hot the frost;
But don't disdain me
if I show little mercy,
for even smaller is my confidence in your love;
Heaven gave you, ladies,
freely as a gift
the false love, but not yet the beautiful and good one;
Lovers are blind
and Cupid is even more blind
for carelessly giving you a soul, or giving you a heart.
