Missouri Harmony, 1820

1. Bright scenes of glory strike my sense,
And all my passions capture;
Eternal beauties round me shine,
Infusing warmest rapture;
I live in pleasures deep and full,
In swelling waves of glory;
And feel my Savior in my soul,
And groan to tell my story.

2. I feast on honey, milk and wine,
I drink perpetual sweetness;
Mount Zion's odors through me shine,
While Christ unfolds his glory.
No mortal tongue can show my joys,
Nor can an angel tell them!
Ten thousand times surpassing all
Terrestrial worlds or emblems.

3. My captivated spirit flies
Through shining worlds of beauty;
Dissolved in blushes, loud I cry
In praises loud and mighty:
And here I'll sing and swell the strains
Of harmony delighted,
And with the millions learn the notes
Of saints and Christ united.

4. The bliss that rolls through heaven above,
Through those in glory seated;
Which causes them loud songs to sing,
Ten thousand times repeated:
Goes through my soul in radiant flames,
Constraining loudest praises;
O'er-whelming all my powers with joys,
While all within me blazes.

5. Then earth and seas shall be no more,
And all their glory perish ;
When sun and moon shall cease to shine,
And stars at midnight languish.
My joy refined shall higher shine,
Mount heaven's radiant glory,
And tell through one eternal day,
Love's all immortal story.

Social and Camp-Meeting Songs, 1822

1. Bright scenes of glory strike my sense,
And all my passions capture,
Eternal beauties round me shine,
Infusing warmest rapture.
I dive in pleasures, deep and full
In swelling waves of glory;
And feel my Savior in my soul,
And groan to tell my story.

4. The bliss that rolls through those above,
Through those in glory seated,
Which causes them loud songs to sing,
Ten thousand times repeated:
Dart through my soul in radiant flame,
Constraining loudest praises:
O'er-whelming all my powers with joy,
While all within me blazes.

5. When earth and sea shall be no more,
And all their glory perish.

Choice Selection, Windsor, VT, 1836

Bright scenes of glory strike my sense,
And all my passions capture ;
Eternal beauty round me shines,
Infusing warmest rapture ;
I dive in oceans deep and full,
That swell in waves of glory ;
I feel my Savior in my soul,
And long to tell the story.

2. I feast on honey, milk and wine,
I drink perpetual sweetness ;
Mount Zion yields her rich perfumes
While Christ unfolds his greatness.
No mortal tongue can tell my joy,
Nor can an angel show them!
Ten thousand times surpassing all
Terrestrial worlds or emblems.

3. My footsteps trace the pleasant mead
And myrtle fields adorn ;
While groves of spice my noon-day shades
And spreads a richer grandeur.
The chant of seraphs lift my soul
Till caught with heavenly fire ;
And dying love to me unfolds,
Which tunes my heart the higher.

4. My captivated spirit flies
Through worlds of shining beauty!
Dissolved in love, to heaven I cry
In praises loud and mighty :
I'll here eternal notes employ
In songs of rapturous praises,

.
O'er-whelming all my powers with joy,
While all within me gazes!

5. Then earth and sea shall be no more,
And all their glory perish ;
When sun and moon shall cease to shine,
And stars at midnight languish.
My joy refined shall higher shine,
Mount heaven's radiant glory,
And tell through one eternal day,
Love's all immortal story.
