English text
1. Willie, take your little drum;
With your whistle, Robin, come!
When we hear the fife and drum,
Tu-re-lu-re-lu, Pat-a-pat-a-pan,
When we hear the fife and drum,
Christmas should be frolicksome.
2. When the men of olden days
Gave the King of kings their praise.
They had pipes to play upon,
Tu-re-lu-re-lu, Pat-a-pat-a-pan,
And also the drums they play’d,
Full of joy on Christmas Day.
3. Satan now has lost his claim
For the grace of Jesus came
With the sound of caroling
Tu-re-lu-re-lu, Pat-a-pat-a-pan
With the sound of caroling
Let us all our triumph sing.
4. God and man now join as one
As the fife and drum have done,
As we listen to them play,
Tu-re-lu-re-lu, Pat-a-pat-a-pan,
As we listen to them play,
Let us sing of Christmas Day.
