And he she lov’d prov’d false
and did forsake her.
She had a song of willow,
An old thing ’twas,
but it expressed her fortune,
And she died singing it.

That song tonight
Will not go from my mind;

And sing it like poor Barbara.

das Barbara hieß;
das arme Ding war in jemanden verliebt,
der sie nicht wiederlieben wollte.
Sie hatte ein Lied,
das sich immer mit Weide endigte,
es war ein altes Ding, aber es schickte sich auf ihre Umstände, und sie sang es bis in den letzten Augenblick ihres Lebens.
Ich kann mir dieses Lied
die ganze Nacht nicht aus dem Sinn bringen;
