Life

Born: Dub­lin, Ire­land, 16 De­cem­ber, 1825.

Died: Dub­lin, Ire­land, 24March, 1894.

Biography

Irish Romantic Composer. At­tend­ed, and chorister at the Ca­thed­ral School of Christ Church. Appointed organist at Christ Church, 1844. Pro­fess­or of Mu­sic at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Dub­lin, 1862-1894. Teacher of Sir Charles Stan­ford was his pu­pil and friend. Editor, Irish Church Hymn­al, 1876. Knighted by Lord Lieutenant, Earl Spen­cer Feb­ru­ary 28, 1872, in the throne room of Dub­lin Cas­tle,
