Description: First published in the American Musical Magazine No. 1, 1786; revised 1804. Words by Isaac Watts, 1719, his paraphrase of Psalm 62. Read chose the third stanza of Watts' paraphrase for his composition; in recent decades stanzas one and two are sung instead.
