Sonno soave, se begl’occhi ancora
Chiuso non hai della mia vaga aurora
Fermati, in cortesia,
Fin che le narro l’aspra pena mia.

Ma s'ella dorme, pur dormasi, e'l cielo
M'ascolti, mentre piango e mi querelo;
E l'ombre e l'aure, e i venti
Stian, con pietade, al mio dolor intenti.

Io moro, e moro perchè il mio sol amo,
Che peggio posso haver, s'io la disamo;
Pur di morir mi piace,
Poi che il mio sol n'havrà diletto e pace.

Ma poi che in questa afflitta e trista vita
Piacer non posso alla beltà infinita,
E ben che con la morte
Misero cerchi più felice sorte.
