Errors and editorial suggestions
We are performing this piece this week, a delightful one! Thanks for the edition! There are a few things to correct or ponder upon:
- m. 5, T1/B1: should read Babylonis instead of Gabylonis.
- m. 29, C2: suggested A on can, then A–G#–F#–G# on o.
- m. 32, C2: should have A–B–C–D on et qui abdu- (says facsimile).
- m. 33, A1: suggested to move the phrase forward to avoid unison with C1 and clash F#–G with B1: quarter rest, then E(8)–F#(8)–G(8)–A(8) G(4)–F#(4)–E(4).
- m. 34, A2: should move the phrase back a bit, to start at the beginning of the measure (with D#? or T1 with D♮?), and a longer note at the end (says facsimile).
- m. 36: the triple time actually starts at m. 37, and T2’s notes should be two even quarters without the rest. I understand that the transition to triple time may be easier this way, though.
NB! The composition published in Vulpius’ Cantionum sacrarum secunda pars is not the same as the one in the Florilegium! So it’s not the first edition of this piece.
