Since posting the above message, I've just noticed that the scores that you have contributed to CPDL have not been in your name. It is a requirement of all submissions that the real name of the editor is mentioned for error reporting and other reasons. I have therefore moved you user page to User:Massimo Capozza and added some titles and the category for CPDL contributors. I have also corrected the name under "Editor" on your edition entries to read "Massimo Capozza". I hope that this all meets with your approval. Your version of phpBB

I agree that probably some more testing should be done with the phpBB analogue of the CPDL BB. A translation request

Hi Max. I have a favour to ask. Since a lot of the contributions to CPDL are sent through the add works form and many contributors have been submitting the form several times for the same edition, we have a number of duplicate CPDL catalogue numbers being created, a situation which isn't ideal by my reckoning. Some time ago I added the following text to the page to try to get people to not make duplicate submissions:

"PLEASE DO NOT COMPLETE THE "ADD WORKS" FORM MORE THAN ONCE FOR THE SAME EDITION. Once you have submitted the form, a unique CPDL number is generated which becomes obsolete if the form is run a second time for the same edition. Volunteers will receive the form which you submitted and post it on the wiki in due course - please be patient. If you forgot to include some information in the form the first time you submitted it, please email addscore(at)cpdl.org with the details rather than submitting the form again. Thank you."

However, some contributors have continued to do so, I suspect mostly because of the language barrier. I wonder if you would mind translating this text into Italian (and any other languages that you are able to translate to) and I will add this translation to the page as well. I'm posting a similar message on Joachim and Claude's talk pages so we should have Italian, Dutch and French covered. Any additional languages would be a bonus. Hi Carlos, thank you very much for the tips. I've translated already all the pages that you proposed. I plan to draft a "guide to translate ChoralWiki pages", so as to facilitate translation into other languages. I'll list the pages you suggested, further to the Main Page, so that whoever wants to contribute with page translations may have some kind of step-by-step procedure, starting from the most frequently used pages. A guide will be very usefull, Max! The only hint I can think of by now is that users always start by creating pages filled with the English basic structures and then translate them, just as you have done. Yes, the numbered texts system helps the translation a lot, as you have the text sections clearly separated from the page structure and formatting instructions. Obviously, we cannot convert all existing pages to the numbered texts system, but certainly the Main Page deserves such a treatment. We may possibly adopt a convention: the first time a page (not yet made with numbered text) is translated to another language, it should be also converted to the numbered texts system. So the guide should contain two sections: a) how to convert the source page to the numbered texts system if not converted yet; b) how to translate the numbered texts system page to another language. Ok, I'll try to convert the Main Page to the numbered texts system, too. I only fear that, because of its more dynamic nature, if someday a new layout is decided for this page, its translations may become botched for a while with this system.
With regard to your suggestions, in my view the task in section a) is something that should be done exclusively by an admin, so I'd rewrite it to something like: "ask an admin to convert the source page to the numbered texts system if not converted yet". —Carlos Email.gif 15:54, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
You're right Carlos: leave the Main Page as it is, I'll provide in the guide some hints to identify the text to be translated with respect to the formatting text. And I'll include the conversion to the numbered texts system as an option to be discussed with an admin on a case-by-case basis, depending on the type of page, i.e., more or less dynamic. Max, converting the Main Page to the parameterized system wasn't so difficult as I thought. We'll need to be more carefull now when updating the page content, but on the other hand new translations will be much more straightforward. Francesco Sponga-Usper‎‎

Hi Max! Sponga-Usper looks like a composite surname, as Saint-Saens, which is not the case here. I think we should stick to one of the forms Francesco Sponga or Francesco Usper. Testing a new extension and new templates

Bonjour Claude, I deleted the GetWorkTitle and GetWorkComposer templates as the MakeCPDLedition and CPDLedition templates incorporate the same features, extended to all work fields and not only to title and composer. If you want to replace any database fields with others, you may run the MakeCPDLedition template using the subst: prefix, and then edit the resulting page (i.e., you may replace with new values any items retrieved from the database using the #getdata extension). These templates are still experimental, and we are discussing at the administrators forums about the best way to use them. The ideal situation, in my opinion, would be that all key items are associated to labels, that are then formatted into a page layout by a template. So we clearly separate information from mere formatting. Maybe we need to add some fields, such as the text area, the translations, etc. . Choralia 08:57, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

I meant that, at the current development status of these templates, the capability to add texts is not yet present. Further work on the templates is required (e.g., to add new fields). Anyway, I've just replaced the template with the usual format for a new work page, so you can add any text as normal. I'll use some other page to further experiment new templates and extensions. Replacing files with new versions

Hi Max. All the best for the new year, first of all, for you and yours. A friend of mine (login name Clovis) has been trying to replace his existing editions with updated versions, but consistently gets an error message. Gloria a 16

Max, I noticed that there are also two editions by Sabine of Deus misereatur and Maria stabat, but they are slightly different from each other. In the case of the Gloria, however, I compared both pdfs and they look identical. Croce penitential psalms

Wotcher, I see you have posted all these, without texts. I never had the Latin (c.f. Peter Cook) but these items are paraphrased in sonnet and attributed to Francesco Bembo. I do have the English sonnets (english'd by R.H.) on my web-site, if they are any use (e.g. http://www.notamos.co.uk/143045.shtml ). A minor point is that you have given them titles acoording to the Vulgate psalm numbering system. New Add work

Hi Max, something really weird happened in this edit, could you please check? I'm not referring to the typo ("}}" instead of "]]"), but more specifically to the removal of the text inside parentheses. The script probably thought it was a bunch of links and removed it all. Do you think it's possible to refine the test so that it won't do anything if it doesn't find pairs of square or curly brackets inside of the parentheses? Maybe there are too many format variations of work entry lines, therefore attempting to amend them automatically cannot work. There will always be variations that will not be correctly handled. So I think we'd better simplify the automatic part ot the process: a new entry line is added after the Legend template also in the case the same work title exists already, and the user (or an administrator) takes then care of merging the previously existing entry line (including any odd format variations) with the new one. Listing all the works of an opus on each works page

Max, I seem to recall a neat way to do it using {{NoComp...}} but I've forgotten where! I can do it with square brackets, see Good night (Charles Hubert Hastings Parry) but I'd be grateful for instruction!Jamesgibb (talk) 16:20, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

James, honestly speaking I don't recall anything like that. Maybe Carlos or Chuck may help? Personally, I think that opuses that include multiple works should be handled as collections, i.e., by defining a category associated to the opus, and declaring each work as a member of the category. This creates the correct logical relationships between the opus and the works included in the opus. Then the SortWork function could be used to list the works. The SortWork function is currently set to only work on composer pages, however it can be extended to run on work pages as well. Max a.k.a. Choralia (talk) 19:59, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Filepath or Media?

Hello, I notice you lately changed all the {{filepath: ...}} to [Media: ...] on this works page, but apparently only on this one page. I am somewhat confused, not sure what the difference is between the two. Should I be changing something I do or have done? Perhaps this is related to your recent edits to the AddWork form (because that is what generated the filepath coding). — Barry Johnston (talk) 03:59, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Barry, I selected your recent submission to demonstrate to other admins a new MediaWiki extension that I developed specifically for ChoralWiki. Historically we used the filepath: coding because it allows to show an icon associated to the link, while the Media: coding does not allow to do so (if you place an URL after the filename, the URL of the icon is shown as plain text, rather than the icon itself). However, the filepath: coding treats the link to internal files as if they were external files, and this causes a serious problem: all our File: pages are not associated to the work pages where such files are used! This makes the unused file list totally useless to trace possible score files submitted but not associated to any work pages. The Media: coding associates instead the file to the corresponding work page (see for example File:HosannaJanes1803a.pdf). My extension now allows to use the Media: coding and show the icon rather than the plain text URL, so it may replace all the filepath: instances used so far and, at the same time, make the unused file list usable.
We are currently evaluating if adopting this approach or not (I added a specific topic on the section of the forums that is only visible to the CPDL administrators). If it is adopted, the Addwork form will use it for all new submissions, while all existing work pages will have to be edited in batch to change the filepath: coding to the corresponding Media: coding. This has not been decided yet, so for the moment please do nothing. The Addwork form will still use filepath: until a decision is made. If it will be decided not to adoopt the Media: coding, I'll revert my edits to Hosanna (Walter Janes). Max a.k.a. Choralia (talk) 08:24, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Error message when adding works

Max, I'm getting the following message when I try to upload a new edition.

SiteNotice

Hi Max, could you please update the Italian translations in MediaWiki:Contribnotice/it and MediaWiki:Visitornotice/it to reflect the changes in their English counterparts? By the way, is the phrase "Please register/log in to edit pages or submit new works" in MediaWiki:Contribnotice really necessary? Only already logged-in users will be able to see it, right? What about changing it to "This is the CPDL Contributor ChoralWiki, visible to (or accessible by) logged-in users only". Saluti, —Carlos (talk) 17:35, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

I've updated the translations, Carlos. Regarding the message "Please register/log in to edit pages or submit new works", I think we adopted it to stay on the safe side in the case, for any reasons (e.g., cache), the contributor notice were also displayed after having logged-out. I think that in the next version of the MediaWiki SW some modifications to the log-in mechanism will be introduced, so I think we should maintain this (maybe redundant) notice still for a while. Hi Max, can you please read the conversation I had with Claude on the same topic? He reported two problems that I was unaware of. Maybe the mw:Extension:Polyglot doesn't handle system messages properly. I was reading mw:Manual:Interface/Sitenotice and noticed the existence of MediaWiki:Anonnotice. Perhaps we should use it instead of MediaWiki:Visitornotice; that way, we can remove {{Switch}} from MediaWiki:Sitenotice and let the system select the proper message to display depending on whether the visitor is authenticated or not. —Carlos (talk) 20:01, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
