Nice to see these appearing!  I'm not sure my move of [[Magnificat quarti toni, Book 3 a 6/7 (Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina)]] is the ultimate improvement, but see what you think of the outline I've started on the [[Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina|composer page]].  Next I'll try to Tom Sawyer you into Lassus Mags. ;-) [[User:Richard Mix|Richard Mix]] 04:16, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

:David,
:Gawdelpus! Yes, I've just looked at my facsimile partbooks, and that note is indeed an error in all our editons... I originally cribbed from Steve's Sibelius files in haste (with corrections from the facsimiles where needed) in order to prepare scores for the choir that I was singing with for a complete three-nighter concert of the complete 1575 collection at low pitch. Now, owing to other commitments, I was only able to sing in the second concert... which contained the offending piece! I'm sure I would have spotted it long before in rehearsal, and only hope that somebody else did so. I've emended (in melius) my score, and see that you have too. But, yes, off to Mr Maidlow-Davis' office for six of the best each!!

Hi, Edward--
First, thank you for the pointer to the Pierkin da Raedt. I bought the edition (though have not had opportunity to sing it yet--really looking forward to it). Also, I recently saw your note about Spem-based pieces--thank you, thank you for that as well. -- [[User:Vaarky|Vaarky]] 01:58, 30 September 2011 (CDT)
== Byrd: O Lord make thy servant ==
Edward,
Here I am cribbing from your scores again (actually scanning ''O Lord make thy servant'' with Photoscore, importing into Sibelius and extracting the Bassus part to sing from, thus saving printer ink and consequently the planet) and thinking that in Contratenor, bar 13, you probably meant ''her lips'', not ''thy''.  Of course, this is editorial text, so you could put whatever you want: ''shoo-be-do-be-doo--wah'' would fit nicely...<br>
All best,

== What happened to your scores? ==
Hi Edward,
Sorry if this is explained elsewhere already, but I was wondering why so many of your scores are marked as withdrawn at your request. I've enjoyed singing several of your transcriptions in the past and often see withdrawn links to ones I would like to try!
Thanks,

:Hi James,
:The simple answer is that a German site was pirating my work, selling PDFs on their site (without my knowledge or permission) and removing my name from them in the process. I thus decided that if I couldn't trust one person on the internet not to interfere with my rights that I couldn't trust anyone. And who knows what else has happened elsewhere while my back was turned! That said, I've left a large number of my scores on there for anyone who can use them, so they've not all been removed.
:I've put together my own catalogue of works that I've edited, and am selling them to those who would like copies. I'm doing pretty well so far, so the score removal seems to have paid off.

== Taverner Mean Mass ==
Dear Edward,
I've posted already on the Taverner 'Mean' Mass page, but thought I'd summarise here also. I don't suppose there's the possibility of getting hold of this mass is there? I see you've taken it down, only the Byrd 4 part mass is on the Cambridge Pre-U syllabus this year (the new A level) and it'd be great to have a score of one of its main influences!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

seems we're interested in some of the same composers!

  • Posted by: Vaarky 05:18, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
 Help

Thanks for your recent Mundy edit, and Robert White too. Sounds like we are interested in some of the same composers.

If you're inclined, I'd love to hear about particular Renaissance motets you especially like in case I haven't sung them yet, and I'd be happy to mention some of my favorites if you're intd. Some day, CPDL will have a rating system for pieces, that says "Other users who rated the Kellyk GFV similarly to you also liked X, Y and Z." :)

Thanks for the suggestions you posted on my talk page. I recently tried the Brumel Lamentations and really appreciate the recommendatios--a lovely piece. Continuing to work my way through your list...

Ditto the Obrecht Salve R a 4, which I finally had a chance to sing--thanks again for the recommendations!

URL for Lassus Veni in Hortum?

  • Posted by: Vaarky 05:40, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
 Help

Thanks for contributing the Lassus Veni in Hortum. The link takes me to another site and I didn't see the score there. Did you intend to paste a different URL or am I overlooking the score? The link would need to change to extpdf if linkink directly to a PDF offsite, or net if linking offsite to a URL that's not directly the PDF. Is that the link you intended to post?

Saw your note on my talk page that this was fixed, thanks! -- Vaarky 23:46, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Dow Partbooks and other Renaissance choral collections

  • Posted by: Vaarky 23:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
 Help

I've created a category for Renaissance choral collections and a new page for the Dow Partbooks. I'll create a page for the Gyffard Partbooks at some point too, unless someone beats me to it.

I'd appreciate if you can look over any of these pages, esp. the Dow Partbooks since you seem especially familiar with it. Please correct any errors you might spot or expand as you deem appropriate. Some of the red links may be red simply because the title doesn't match exactly how the work appears on CPDL--I'm confused about the Johnson and Taverner Dum Transissets, for example. Thanks for any help you can provide.

 Help

Thanks for taking a look at the Dow Partbooks page. The edition of it you recently ordered must be gorgeous! It looks like someone has recently put up an edition of the Robert White Lamentations a 5. Looking forward to any upcoming editions of this or other works you may post (esp. the Parsons O bone Jesu, for which there is no CPDL version yet). As always, thanks for your contributions.

2 discussions you might be intd in

Hi, Edward--

If you haven't already chanced across them, there are two discussions taking place that you might be interested in:

Palestrina Mags

Hi there,

Nice to see these appearing! I'm not sure my move of Magnificat quarti toni a 6/7, pares (Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina) is the ultimate improvement, but see what you think of the outline I've started on the composer page. Next I'll try to Tom Sawyer you into Lassus Mags. ;-) Richard Mix 04:16, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

An editor's editions...

Hi Edward. Many thanks for all your excellent score contributions. I was just reading the section above and your reply to Richard Mix ... it would be great indeed to get our hands in the Lassus Magnificats! While at present we have no way to keep track of the actual number of editions contributed by an editor, there is, for each CPDL editor an automatically generated list of score pages with an editor's contritutions. Yours is at Edward Tambling editions, and you might wish to replace the {{Whatlinkshere}} link on your user page with something like {{CiteCat|Edward Tambling editions|Works with editions contributed by this editor}} or simply {{CiteCat|Edward Tambling editions}}. Thanks again! – Chucktalk Giffen 12:59, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi both! I notice signed cleanup tags are included, so my 'editions' are slightly over-counted by this method. ;-)

White's Lamentations a 5vv is complete, right?

Wasn't sure if there was something more you meant to do regarding this request, or if it can be changed to indicate it's Completed. Thanks! -- Vaarky 07:32, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

I forgot about this after David Fraser beat me to the first CPDL edition! I've produced two more editions myself, so it's definitely complete... Edward Tambling 16:56, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Pierkin de Raedt?

Hi, Edward. I'm trying to track down Missa super Quem Dicunt Homines by this Renaissance composer. You don't happen to have come across it by any chance, have you? Any pointers appreciated.

Tallis: Dum transisset

Edward,

I've just had a note from a chap called JohnC on my talk page making a few points about my edition of Dum transisset, among which he points out a note error, which I've since corrected. Oddly enough, the same error occurs both in your edition and in Steve Sanders's. If you take a look at my page, it's the Bassus part he's talking about. The bar numbers are the same in yours as mine, although of course your notes are a 5th lower. But how very odd. Did we all have access to another source that we've since forgotten about? Did we all copy one another? A trip to the Headmaster's study for us all, I think.
