Revision as of 17:17, 11 November 2006

Hi Raf,

On User talk:Vladimir there is a message for you, which I have replied to as best as I can ... it's about a contributed score which seems to be an 8 part Gabrielli Sonata (for strings &/or brass?) ... Nice work, but not a choral work.

Lord for thy tender mercies' sake (unknown)

Hi Rafael

I've just had a look at the above score on your "to do" list. It seems to be a corrupted version of Farrant's motet by the same name. The phrases move in the same direction as the Farrant and the rhythms are similar. On the Rodeby website it is listed as written by "Dr Tye". Is this Christopher Tye? If so, did one composer imitate the other closely or is it just a bad edition?

I appreciate that this is just a jumble of questions but I hope it helps!

Best, Robert

For how long is a score "New"?

May I reiterate a comment I made on the Forum?:

Just a few queries about how scores are categorised as "new":

 • For how long is a score "new" (that is, has the yy-mm-dd template on it)?
 • What happens when the score ceases to be "new"? is the template automatically deleted?
 • Is there a quick way of replacing the NewWork.png tags with the correct yy-mm-dd template?

Cheers, Rob

Pierre De La Rue & Josquin Des Prez

A little question: I saw you catergorized Pierre De La Rue as .

I changed it in , because:

 1. following your criterion, one would write "Prez, Josquin des"
 2. better: following your criterion (a sort of "dictionary entry style"), one would write "Rue, Pierre de la", since "la" is just an article in French
 3. the name of the composer is often written "Delarue" (as for "Desprez"), so I wouldn't have doubt on the fact that my version is not only more correct, but even more useful to avoid users not finding the right page

A part from knowing French, I don't have a so big acquaintance on the subject. If you are sure you were right, please rollback.
