German text
1 Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern
Voll Gnad und Wahrheit von dem Herrn,
Die süße Wurzel Jesse!
Du Sohn Davids aus Jakobs Stamm,
Mein König und mein Bräutigam,
Hast mir mein Herz besessen,
Lieblich, freundlich,
Schön und herrlich, groß und ehrlich,
Reich von Gaben,
Hoch und sehr prächtig erhaben!
2 Ei meine Perl’, du werte Kron,
Wahr’ Gottes und Mariens Sohn,
Ein hochgeborner König!
Mein Herz heißt dich ein Himmelsblum;
Dein süßes Evangelium
Ist lauter Milch und Honig.
Ei mein Blümlein,
Hosianna! Himmlisch Manna,
Das wir essen,
Deiner kann ich nicht vergessen!
3 Geuß sehr tief in das Herz hinein,
Du leuchtend Kleinod, edler Stein,
Mit deiner Liebe Flamme,
Daß ich, o Herr, ein Gliedmaß bleib
An deinem auserwählten Leib,
Ein Zweig an deinem Stamme.
Nach dir wallt mir,
Mei Gemüte, Ewig Güte,
Bis es findet
Dich, des Liebe mich entzündet.
4 Von Gott kommt mir ein Freudenschein,
Wenn du mich mit den Augen dein
Gar freundlich tust anblicken.
O Herr Jesu, mein trautes Gut,
Dein Wort, dein Geist, dein Leib und Blut
Mich innerlich erquicken.
Nimm mich freundlich
In dein Arme, Herr erbarme
Dich in Gnaden;
Auf dein Wort komm ich geladen.
5 Herr Gott Vater, mein starker Held,
Du hast mich ewig vor der Welt
In deinem Sohn geliebet.
Dein Sohn hat mich ihm selbst vertraut,
Er ist mein Schatz, ich seine Braut,
Drum mich auch nichts betrübet.
Eia, eia,
Himmlisch Leben wird er geben
Mir dort oben!
Ewig soll mein Herz ihn loben.
6 Zwingt die Saiten in Cythara
Und laßt die süße Musika
Ganz freudenreich erschallen,
Daß ich möge mit Jesulein,
Dem wunderschönen Bräut'gam mein,
In steter Liebe wallen!
Singet, springet,
Jubilieret, triumphieret,
Dankt dem Herren!
Groß ist der König der Ehren!
7 Wie bin ich doch so herzlich froh,
Daß mein Schatz ist das A und O.
Der Anfang und das Ende!
Er wird mich doch zu seinem Preis
Aufnehmen in das Paradeis;
Des klopf' ich in die Hände.
Amen! Amen!
Komm, du schöne Freudenkrone,
Bleib nicht lange,
Deiner wart' ich mit Verlangen!

1 Hoe helder staat de morgenster
en straalt mij tegen van zo ver,
de luister van mijn leven.
Kom tot mij, Zoon van David, kom,
mijn Koning en mijn Bruidegom,
mijn hart wil ik U geven.
Lieflijk, vriend’lijk,
schoon en heerlijk, zo begeerlijk,
mild in ‘t geven,
stralend, vorstelijk verheven.
6 Laat al het vrolijke geluid,
van stemmen, van viool en fluit,
te zijner ere klinken.
Hij staat voor altijd aan mijn zij.
Mijn schone liefste is van mij,
in Hem wil ik verzinken.
Laat ons samen
spelen, zingen, dansen, springen
voor de Here,
die de Koning is der ere.
7 Hoe is Hij mij zo innig na,
de Alfa en de Omega,
mijn hart doet Hij ontbranden.
Hij zal mij tot zijn lof en prijs
opnemen in zijn paradijs,
dan klap ik in de handen.
Amen, amen,
kom mij troosten, allerschoonste,
mijn begeren,
toef niet langer. Kom, o Here.

English translation
1 How lovely shines the Morning Star!
The nations see and hail afar
The light in Judah shining.
Thou David's Son of Jacob's race,
My Bridegroom and my King of Grace,
For Thee my heart is pining.
Lowly, Holy,
Great and glorious, Thou victorious
Prince of graces,
Filling all the heavenly places.
6 Lift up the voice and strike the string.
Let all glad sounds of music ring
In God's high praises blended.
Christ will be with me all the way,
Today, tomorrow, every day,
Till traveling days be ended.
Sing out, ring out
Triumph glorious, o victorious,
Chosen nation;
Praise the God of your salvation.
7 Oh, joy to know that Thou, my Friend,
Art Lord, Beginning without end,
The First and Last, Eternal!
And Thou at length, o glorious grace!
Wilt take me to that holy place,
The home of joys supernal.
Amen, Amen!
Come and meet me! Quickly greet me!
With deep yearning
Lord, I look for Thy returning.

English translation
1. How splendid shines the morning star,
God's gracious light from darkness far,
The root of Jesse blessed.
Thou David's son of Jacob's stem,
My bridegroom, King, and wondrous Lamb,
Thou hast my heart possessed.
Sweetly, friendly,
O thou handsome, Precious ransom,
Full of graces,
Set and kept in heavenly places.
2. O precious pearl, crown of my life,
Truly God's Son, of Mary born,
A King with highest birthright.
As a lily my heart sees you;
Redemption's story is my song,
Is purest milk and honey.
O my flower,
Sing hosanna, Heavenly manna
That we've eaten,
Sacrifice unforgettable.
3. Put yourself deep within my heart,
Clearer than jasper or ruby,
Embed the flames of your love.
And free me, so that I may be
Chosen to be in your body,
Close as a rib or arm–bone!
Because of you,
Rose of heaven, Full of graces,
My heart is full,
Warmed by all your convincing love.
4. Glorious light comes to me from God,
When you with your beautiful eyes
See me with true friendliness.
O Lord Jesus, my highest good,
Your word, your spirit, life and blood,
Make them alive within me!
As a friend, take
Me in your arms, So I am warmed
In your sweet grace,
I am invited by your word.
5. Lord God Father, mighty champion,
Before the world you have always
Loved me through your only Son.
Your Son promised himself to me;
He my victory, I his bride,
Rejoicing greatly in him.
Truly, truly,
He will give me Life in heaven
There forever!
Therefore I will praise him always.
6. Strum the strings on the harp and lute,
And let the sweeter music's sound
Carry through the joyful land.
Therefore I may with my Jesus,
My most beautiful companion,
Daily live in constant love.
Singing, jumping,
Victoriously, Triumphantly,
Thanks to the Lord!
Give honor unto the great King!
7. I am full of joy in my heart,
My true Alpha and Omega,
My beginning and my end.
As his reward he will take me
With him up to his paradise,
Therefore, we all clap our hands.
Amen, Amen!
Come, you joyous Crown of glory,
Hesitate not,
I am longing, waiting for you.
