Description: The tune is based on The Ballad of Captain Kidd, an eighteenth-century English song (Jackson 1953a). Porter and Garst (1979) found more than twenty tunes in this unusual meter, including the present one. The tune and words above appears in The Sacred Harp, 1844 to the present, on p. 159, and in many modern hymnbooks.
