Biography

He was born in Borgo San Sepolcro (today's Sansepolcro, near Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy) on March 24, 1571.

From 1590 to 1591 he was a priest and teacher of grammar. Subsequently, until around 1603, he was organist in his hometown, at the cathedral (1592-97) and at the confraternities of S. Maria della Misericordia (1591-1600) and S. Bartolomeo (1595-1598). After the first publication in 1594 of a "canzonetta" for 3 voices, "Crudel, se 'l mio mal vedi", which appeared in "Secondo libro delle canzonette a tre e quattro voci" by his fellow citizen, who moved to Padua, Gaspare (or Gasparo) Torelli, starting since 1600 from 1600 he published other compositions, sacred and profane, including "Il primo libro di Madrigali a cinque voci con un ecco a otto" (1602), "Concerti ecclesiastici, libro primo" (1602), "Salmi, falsibordoni, e motetti … con 2 Magnificat" (1603), "Messe … con un Magnificat" (1603), "Il secondo libro de' concerti ecclesiastici" (1608). In November 1606, he became maestro di cappella at the cathedral of Pisa. He was also a member of the "Accademia degli Unisoni", a musical academy in Perugia. Adriano Banchieri mentions him in the book "Conclusioni del suono dell’organo" (Bologna 1609, p. 25). Pompeo Signorucci died in Borgo San Sepolcro, the city where he was born, on 15 November 1608.
