Se gli è vero, Himeneo,
Che l’alm’e i cori
Di sald’amori
Legh’ agli amanti
Con nodi santi
Hor stringi Aminta
E Clori così forte
Che non si sciolgan mai,
Se non per morte.

E s’annodi gli amanti
A tutt’e l’hore
D’eterno amore
Con pace unita
In Cielo ordita
Hor fa se giusto
E se benigno sei
Ch’eterni sien gli amori
E gl’Himenei.

by Luigi Cataldi
If it is true, Hymenaeus, that you bind the souls and hearts
of the lovers
with holy knots
of strong affections,
then knit Aminta and Clori so firmly
that they can be untied only by death.

And, if you continually tie the lovers
with endless love
and common peace
wished in Heaven,
then, if you are righteous and mild,
let love and wedlock be eternal.
