Background

Born in Treorci in the famous Rhondda valley in Wales, David was born into a musical family. Both grandfathers were celebrated local musicians, his paternal grand father Ivor Cynan was an organist in Siloh Chapel and conductor of the local youth choir. His maternal grandfather, David Davies was the bass soloist in the famous Treorchy Male Voice Choir. His uncle John Rhoslyn Davies became Music adviser in Montgomeryshire before taking up a post as repetiteur at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. He would later study with Carlo Zechi in Italy with such noted musicians as Daniel Baremboim, Claudio Abbado and Sir Colin Davies. His untimely early death robbed the musical world of a great talent.

David's father, John Cynan Jones was for over twenty five years the conductor of the Treorchy Male Choir. Under his direction the choir worked with such artists as Tom Jones, Julie Andrews, Ella Fitzgerald, Burt Bacharach in numerous television performances that were transmitted worldwide. They performed in several of the world's leading concert halls and toured Canada on two occasions and were the first male choir to undertake a tour to Australia. David began singing at an early age and gained a choral scholarship to Llandaff Cathedral in 1980. He returned there
