Description: Probably composed 1780 or before. This tune first appeared in manuscript in 1780 for two parts (TB) and in a later manuscript ca. 1790 in expanded form for four parts, apparently transcribed from singing-school sessions (perhaps led by Billings himself). It was not published until 1794, and then in similar form to the ca. 1790 manuscript. All three versions begin in 3:2 time and progress to a cut-time coda. Words by Isaac Watts, 1709, his Hymn 106 of Book 1.
