wie das zu dämpfen, wie das zu lösen vermag.
Der mich bedrückte, schläfst du schon, Schmerz?
Was mich beglückte, was war's doch, mein Herz?
Freude wie Kummer, fühl ich, zerran,
aber den Schlummer führten sie leise heran.
Und im Entschweben, immer empor,
kommt mir das Leben ganz wie ein Schlummerlied vor.

comme s'ils avaient le pouvoir de s'affaiblir, de se dissoudre l'un l'autre.
Toi qui m'oppressais, dors-tu déjà, ô ma douleur?
Ce qui me rendait heureux, qu'était-ce donc, mon coeur?
Il me semble que la joie comme le souci ont disparu,
mais sans bruit, ils ont apporté le sommeil.
Et dans cet envol vers le ciel, toujours,
la vie m'apparaît toute semblable à une berceuse.
