Description:

The lyrics from Heinrich Heine are contained in his "book of songs". Also Felix Mendelssohn set the poem to Music.

Allnächtlich im Traume seh ich dich,
Und sehe dich freundlich grüßen,
Und lautaufweinend stürz ich mich
Zu deinen süßen Füßen.
Du siehst mich an wehmütiglich,
Und schüttelst das blonde Köpfchen;

Translation (by a native German):

Any night I see you in my dreams,
and I see how you greet cordially,
and crying loudly I collapse
at your sweet feet.

You look at me with melancholy,
and shake your blonde sweet head;
out of your head creep
the tinny drips of pearly tears.

You whisper intimately one word to me,
and give to me the bouquet of cypresses.
I wake up, and the bouquet has gone,
and the word - I have forgotten it.
