French text Original text Au joly son du sansonnet je m’endormy l'autre nuictée. Et là ouy dire ung souhait Qui touchoit à m’amye: "Va, si te marie, va Puisqu'on les a bien à l'essay." Jamais ne me mariray Modern French Au joli son du sansonnet je me suis endormi l'autre nuit. Là j'ai entendu un souhait qui concernait mon amie: "Va, si tu désires te marier! Va, puisqu'on les a bien eus à l'essai." Jamais ne me marierai!

English translation I heard the starling’s lovely sound The other night as sleep I found. A hidden wish it did expound That touched on my beloved: “Want to marry, go ahead! ‘Cause we’ve passed all the gals around.” I’ll never be by marriage bound! Translation by Thomas Daughton
