Life

Born: c.1505

Died: mid-1563

Born in or near Zamorra and educated in Salamanca, Bartolomé de Escobedo served in the Papal choir 1536-54 before returning to Spain. The gout he suffered from has been invoked to explain his absences as well as the fines levied for verbal abuse of his colleagues. The motet Immutemur habitu/Juxta vestibulum was published By Scotto in Moralis hispani et multorum eximiae artis 4 vc 1543/5 and reprinted as Morales' work by Gardane 1546/9; there are mss. in the Vatican and in Toledo.
