Edition notes: The alto part is printed in the source in the treble clef, an octave above sounding pitch. The first verse only of the text is given in the source: three subsequent verses have been underlaid editorially. The time signature in the source is retorted time. The tenor C on beat 2 of bar 39 is printed as a small quaver grace note in the source (slurred to the following B, which is printed as a minim), and has been editorially written out in full.
