Description: This setting of the first four verses of James Merrick's metrical version of Psalm 4, to a tune by Philip Hayes, was published on p14 of Improved Psalmody (London, 1794), compiled by William Dechair Tattersall. In that collection, it is given the descriptive heading 'An Incitement to private Meditation'. Hymn Tune Index tune number 6552.
