ac suspiciens in coelum, ingemuit, et ait illi: Ephetha, quod est aperire.
Et statim apertae sunt aures ejus, et vinculum linguae ejus solutum est; et loquebatur recte.
Ac praecipit eis ne cui dicerent; sed quo magis ille eis praeceperat, hoc potius amplius praedicabant.

Als Jesus die Gegend von Tyrus und Sidon verlassen hatte, kam er zum Galiläischen Meer inmitten des Gebiets der Zehn Städte.
Und sie führten zu ihm einen, der taub war und sprachbehindert, und baten ihn, dass er jenem die Hand auflege.
Und als er jenen abseits der Menge geführt hatte, legte er seine Finger in dessen Ohren, und mit seinem Speichel berührte er seine Zunge,
und aufblickend zum Himmel seufzte er, und sprach zu ihm: Epheta, das heißt: öffne!
Und sogleich wurden seine Ohren geöffnet, und die Fessel seiner Zunge wurde gelöst; und er vermochte richtig zu reden.
Und er gebot ihnen, sie sollten nicht davon reden; aber je mehr er ihnen dies gebot, desto mehr redeten sie davon.

When Jesus hat left the vicinity of Tyrus and Sidon, he came to the Sea of Galilee, inmidst of the region of the Ten Cities.
And they led to him someone who was deaf and courd hardly speak, and they begged him to place his hands on him.
And as he had taken him aside of the crowd, he put his fingers in the man’s ears, and with his own spittle he touched his tongue,
and looking up to heaven he sighed, saying to him: Ephata, which means: open!
And immediately his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosened, and he was able to speak intelligibly.
And he commanded them not to talk about it; but more he commanded them, the more they kept talking about it.
And they were stunned with amazement, and said: He makes the deaf hear, and the mute speak.
