Spanish text I En las riberas últimas de España un lusitano sólo estaba un día, que no le sufre ajena compañía la triste soledad que le acompaña. A la tierra miraba como extraña que con ingratitud le despedía, y a la salada mar así decía rompiendo por la que sus ojos baña: II “Recibid, sacras ondas, los despojos de un alma que en la tierra así han tratado, que vuestro reino busca por abrigo; que, pues la que a tal punto me ha llegado al fin que me ordenó niega los ojos, de mi fe y su rigor sed vos testigo”. Portuguese translation I Nas fronteiras últimas de Espanha um solitário lusitano estava um dia, e não lhe parecia alheia companhia a triste saudade que o acompanha. À terra mirava como a uma estranha que com ingratidão o despedia, e ao salgado mar assim dizia por entre o outro mar que aos olhos banha: II “Recebei, sagradas ondas, os despojos de um'alma que em terra tanto hão destratado, que vosso reino busca por abrigo; porque aquela, que a tal ponto me há levado, ao destino que me ordenou fecha os olhos; de minha fé e seu rigor testemunhai, suplico”.

English translation I On the furthermost shores of Spain a lonely Portuguese was one day, the sad solitude which accompanied him seemed not a foreign companion. He gazed at the land as if at a stranger the land that dismissed him with ingratitude, and spoke thus to the salty sea bursting into a sea of tears: II "Receive, sacred waves, the remains of a soul so badly treated on land that it seeks refuge in your kingdom; she who drove me to this extreme closed her eyes to the fate she ordered me; be witness, then, of my faith and her disdain." French translation I Sur les dernières côtes d’Espagne, était un jour un lusitanien, qui ne souffrait d’étrangère compagnie, que la triste solitude qui l’accompagnait. Il regardait la terre comme étrangère qui ingratement le renvoyait, et à la mer salée il parlait ainsi, la rompant pour qu’elle baigne ses yeux: II “Vous avez reçu, ondes sacrées, les dépouilles d’une âme qu’ils ont ainsi traitée sur terre, qui cherche votre royaume pour abris; celle qui m’a amené à ce point, ignore la fin qu’elle m’ordonna, de ma foi et de sa rigueur, vous êtes témoins”
