Original text and translations
Latin text
Exurge, quare obdormis Domine?
Exurge, et ne repellas in finem:
Quare faciem avertis?
Oblivisceris tribulationem nostram?
Exurge Domine, adjuva nos et libera nos
propter nomen tuum.
This text from the Graduale romanum differs slightly from the version in the (old) vulgate: Ps. 43:24-25, 27
English translation
Arise, why sleepest thou, O Lord?
arise, and cast us not off to the end.
Why turnest thou face away?
and forgettest our want and our trouble?
Arise, O Lord, help us and redeem us
for thy name's sake. (1899 Challoner revision of Douay 1610)
