1. Quomodo sedet sola civitas; plena populo, facta est quasi vidua.
Domina gentium, princeps provinciarum, facta est sub tributo.
Plorans ploravit in nocte, et lacrimae ejus in maxilis ejus:
non est qui consoletur eam ex omnibus caris ejus:
omnes amici ejus spreverunt eam, et facti sunt ei inimici.

2. Viae Sion lugent eo quod non sint qui veniant ad solemnitatem:
omnes portae ejus destructae: sacerdotes ejus gementes.
Virgines ejus squalidae, et ipsa oppressa amaritudine!

3. O vos omnes qui transitis per viam,
attendite et videte si est dolor similis sicut dolor meus.

4. Vide, Domine, afflictionem meam, quoniam erectus est inimicus.

5. Jerusalem, convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum.

1. Elle est à l'écart, la ville qui comptait un peuple nombreux ! Elle se trouve comme veuve.
Elle qui comptait parmi les nations, princesse parmi les provinces, elle est bonne pour le bagne.
Elle pleure et pleure dans la nuit, des larmes sur ses joues ;
pour elle, pas de consolateur parmi tous ses amants.
Tous ses compagnons la trahissent : ils deviennent ses ennemis.

2. Les routes de Sion sont en deuil, sans personne au rendez-vous ;
ses portes sont toutes ruinées, ses prêtres gémissent.
Ses jeunes filles sont affligées ; quelle amertume !

3. O vous tous qui allez par le chemin,
attendez et voyez s'il existe une douleur semblable à la mienne.

4. Vois, Seigneur, quelle est mon angoisse, car l'ennemi s'est levé.

5. Jérusalem, reviens vers le seigneur, ton seigneur Dieu!
