Biography
Mariano Garau was born in Iglesias, a medieval city in Sardinia (Italy). At a very early age he devoted himself to music under the guidance of composer Pietro Allori and he continued studying harmony and counterpoint with Maestro Rodolfo Cicionesi in Florence. He is the author of romances for Soprano and Tenor, children songs, Masses and motets for choir. Through forty years of artistic activity he has directed many choirs. He can boast of many recordings, including "The Lamentations of Jeremiah" by Thomas Tallis and the "Missa Pange Lingua" by Josquin Des Prez. On the occasion of the Jubilee Year, he recorded the Responsorii della Settimana Santa by T.L.de Victoria. He collaborated with the Banda Sinfonica Stanislaus Silesu for performance and recording (national premiere) of the Requiem by Frigyes Hidas at the Teatro Comunale in Cagliari. In February 1999, he recorded twenty-four of his own compositions, in collaboration with Centro Universitario Musicale di Cagliari. In the Jubilee year of 2000, he won important awards in Rome. His works have become part of the repertoire of numerous Italian and foreign choirs. For several years he has collaborated with the writer and music critic, Natalia Di Bartolo.
