Aliases: Pedro do Porto, Pedro del Puerto, Pedro de Escobar, Pero Escobar

Life

Born: c.1465

Died: after 1535

Biography Escobar sang in the chapel of Isabelle I 1489-1499 (where he composed the Sanctus & Agnus for Juan de Anchieta's lady mass and a Kyrie for a collaboration with Peñalosa), returning to his native Portugal before becoming master of the choirboys at Seville 1507-1514. He is assumed to be the Pedro do Porto who was mestre da capela to Cardinal Dom Affonso from 1521. By 1535 he was living in precarious circumstances in Évora. He left 2 masses of his own and about a score each of motets and villacicos.
