Plus ne beuvray de votre vin, ma dame,
il a du feu, je m'en suis aperçu,
vu que depuis que j'en but, sur mon âme
un feu ardent en mon cœur j'ay conçu.

Je fus en ce très grandement déçu,
car en pensant ma soif rendre contente,
tant plus j'en bus, plus de soif j'ay reçu,
que depuis lors toujours croît et augmente.

since I've noticed it causes heartburn,
ever since I've started drinking it,
I've felt a burning desire within me.

It was a great disappointment to me,
for I had been hoping to quench my thirst
yet the more I drank, the more I grew thirsty
