Psalms

I tried to search the database for compositions with the keyword psalm, but only this page appeared. Something wrong ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wursten (talkcontribs) on 06:38, 13 December 2005‎.

Searching on a single keyword which happens to be the title of a page takes you directly to that page, and this is what happened when you searched on psalm. You might try including one or more additional keywords in your search. Since you are really searching for music (compositions) you might try searching on psalm music - or, for 4-part SATB settings, search on psalm 4vv SATB. Take a look at Help:How do I search for a score? for assistance on using the search facilities available. ChuckGiffen 13:10, 13 December 2005‎

tnx.. I took the liberty of addressing the problem of the numbering of psalms, which differs btwn the roman catholic and protestant tradition and placing the result on this page.. --Wursten 09:21, 30 December 2005 (PST)

To Noel

Hi Noel (mjolnir)!

I was just in the process of replying to a topic you started over at the CPDL forums - the one you entitled "EEEEK! My landmarks have moved..." Anyway, according to the history of this page - http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Psalm&oldid=56026#Texts_.26_translations

you'd done all of Days 1 to 5, and Days 29 and 30, both morn and even. Coming across the page this evening I just saw a whole lot of unfilled-in bits of text looking rather forlorn and so I went on a tidying spree :)

Seriously though, it might be worth using the Sandbox, or this Talk:Psalm page, for recording any meta-editing information that might be relevant, such as "Which day am I up to adding translations for..." :)

Best regards, PML (it's Philip by the way; or else I'd probably prefer it if you called me Fred! j.k.) --Pml 05:55:53, 2006-04-06 (PDT)

OK. For anyone who examines the history page and compares the details of the various changes I made to this page on 2006 April 16, between 12:43 and 13:55 (inclusive), the explanation is that I was editing on two different instances of the page without realizing it.

I added content to the table of English incipits, and also changed the table layout to two columns instead of three to see how it looks.

But what I think would be an even better layout to have one column list the Latin incipit, and the other the English incipit, both of which are links to the appropriate page, thusly

Latin English

22 Dominus regit me 23 The Lord is my shepherd

112 Laudate pueri

113 In exitu 114 When Israel
115 Not unto us, O Lord

114 Dilexi quoniam 116 I am well pleased

115 Credidi

116 Laudate Dominum 117 O praise the Lord

etc.

If it then seems expedient, other Psalm incipits can also be added, for example, 39:5, which was the beginning of Greene's setting, "Lord, let me know mine end". Incipits should also be added for the various sections of Psalm 118 / 119.

"Meta-use" for the English Incipit table: I am using this as a means of keeping track of where I am in adding the Coverdale translation to the Psalms pages.

Links on psalm pages that don't point anywhere

These include links to Luther's Bible, Vulgate, CoE BCP etc. I have removed links on Psalm 2 page. Are there any plans for links to pages by these names in the future? Bobnotts 06:28, 29 January 2007 (PST)

I'm not sure what link's are being referenced here, and I'll assume that you mean the links on individual Psalm pages. I did a significant amount of work on this page about a year ago, but other than adding templates to the some of the individual Psalm page templates, I did no work with them, and that's where I remember seeing the references to the Luther's German translation. The links in this page to the C of E 1662 BCP as are (based upon the random links I checked) the links to the Latin Vulgate. I did a significant amount of work on this page about a year ago, and, I did soI seem to remember that some pages of text include other translations which do not have a list of incipits on the main page.Noel Stoutenburg 2010 GMT 21 February, 2007

Another broken link: http://www.anova.org/sev/htm/hb/19_psalms.htm which should be pointing the New Standard Revised Edition. Actually there's not much we can do with that site, even there the link is broken! I suggest we replace it wit http://bible.oremus.org/ (first Google hit on the string "New Revised Standard Edition"). -- Arthur 2007-02-21 20:58 CET (19:58 UTC)

While I concede that the page on the Oremus site is better than what's there now, I'd prefer a site which takes the user directly to the Psalter. I won't have time to find one until early next week. As for the comments Bob made in January, Noel Stoutenburg 2000 GMT 21 February, 2007
I think it's perfectly right to wait a couple of days to have something better, I was only suggesting; as I said, this was really only the first Google hit. And by the way, you mistyped your name twice, so I took the liberty of correcting it. -- Arthur 2007-01-21 23:05 CET (22:05 UTC)
If the Oremus site were a bit more user friendly, I'd find it quite acceptable; but I'd prefer a link where he user were taken directly to the NRSV translation of the Psalms with a single click. Thank you for correcting my mis-spelling. Noel Stoutenburg 2035 GMT 21 February, 2007

Organizing incipits

After years of going off-site to look, I finally stumbled on the list of incipits on this page, and have made a start on making them sortable alphabetically (some dab work remains).

I was pausing to ask whether a sortable list can be made to wrap like the previous three-column list. Now it seems better to ask for comment on Noel's suggestion above of combining Vulgate & BCP into a single sortable list, which presents no technical hurdle and might be even more useful. It's a bit more work for a single pair of hands, though :-) Richard Mix 15:42, 19 June 2011 (CDT)

Hi Richard, unfortunately the previous three-column table would not be sortable as you intend it. Noel's suggestion seems indeed useful! —Carlos Email.gif 20:37, 19 June 2011 (CDT)

Doxology

I looked for a page called Doxologies (or Doxology) under Category:Text Pages, but there isn't one (of course it is quite possible I missed it). There are a number of different doxologies, so I would like to suggest that there be a Text Page called Doxology. I would be willing to add material to such a page, if it were to be created. Or did you mean for various doxologies to be included under that heading towards the bottom of this page? Thanks. Bcjohnston523 (talk) 23:24, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Barry, we already have a doxology under the title Gloria Patri. Do you think it could be expanded? —Carlos Email.gif 03:36, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you! I added a few doxologies there, will add more as I find time. Bcjohnston523 (talk) 23:33, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
